We started in the Alameda parking lot of Green Mountain. Spirits were high as we had most of our group together and the weather was an extremely mild 55F. Our intention was to go to the top of Green Mountain, go down the singletrack on the northwest side, then go up Zorro and do Dakota Ridge. If we had time and energy we were going to do Matthews-Winters as well…
I felt like this climb was one of my best ever, and thanks to some spin classes in November and December, and some good riding weather in January, I think I am at least as strong as I have been to date. 2005 should be a fun year!
Descending the singletrack on the northwestern side. This section has a fair number of small boulders to keep you alert while cruising down.
Never know what you’re going to see when biking…we got to listen to bagpipes all the way to the top of Dakota Ridge.
The top of Zorro Trail.
Two pics from the top of Dakota Ridge.
We made it all the way to the south exit of Dakota Ridge, and went a short ways up the Red Rocks trail before we decided that time was against us. We decided to take the road back over Dakota and speed along the lower Green Mountain singletrack to get us back at a reasonable hour. We ended up doing about 17 miles as it was… Still a great day for the middle of a Colorado winter!
